I bought a Hurricane and it came with no spark plugs in the engine.
Does anybody know what spark plug i need to buy.
I would also be interested in buying a owners manual if anybody has one for sale.

Thanks for your help

If it is a 71, points not trigger unit, it uses the rare Champion D-77V.

Thanks for your reply. I dont understand what points not trigger unit
means. Could you please explain what you mean.

Also I found out it is a 1972, not a 1971.
Thanks for your help

While all Hurricanes have a Switch Box (CDI) the first year of hurricanes have what they call "maker points" behind the flywheel. Basically a normal set of points.

From the second year on Merc changed it over to a full electronic ignition using an electonic pickup trigger ring.

The 644 used the trigger coil located behind the flywheel ,on later models I have several of those trigger coils for sale, plus lots of other parts, let me know what you need for the 644 Hurricane

The original Hurricane (what the factory designated the 350) did not use a trigger ring behind the flywheel it used "maker points". Subsequent Hurricane the MK1 models use a different trigger ring than the MK 2 models. Just an FYI

Dave, thanks for the replay.

I do need a few things, maybe you can help.
I need an air filter, an ignition switch, and a left headlight.

This sled is in almost mint condition, and I would like to get it fixed up.

Thanks, Kody

There were no air filters on these machines.

The 1972 Hurricane used different headlights than the later models.

How does the air get filtered?

Back on those ancient sleds the air did not get filtered like it does today.

They originally came with a wire mesh over the carb inlet and a 1/4 inch piece of foam to filter. The foam usually lasted 2 years and then went to pieces and got sucked through the motor.

The only one to have an automotive type air filter was the 220/250

Hi Dave, I know it's five years late, but I wonder if you are still on here? I am interested in a trigger coil for a 644 hurricane mark 1. 1972 model. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Lance
