I just picked up a 250er and the previous owner doesn't know the year. From other info I've found it should be a 69, 70 or 71. The serial # is 2746855 if anyone knows how to determine the year from that or let me know any differences in the years so I can ID it.

Thanks,
Brad

I'm in the same boat, I don't know myself how to find the year.

The info that I have ( Intertec Snowmobile Service Manual 9th edition) does not show that Merc made a model 250 in '69 ( only 220's). In 1970, they made models 250E, 250M, 250ER. In 1971 they just made 1 model of the 250, called simply a Merc 250.
Therefore, I would likely guess that you have a 1970...

The Intertec manual is wrong. It has always been wrong...for the last 20 years anyway.

I have a Merc brochure from the 1971 model year and they show the 200, Rocket, Lightning, and the 250 (in 3 variants M, E, and ER)

The only way to tell is the higher the SN the farther out it was produced and there are some electrical components with production date stamps.
