1975 440 SR no spark

this ignition system is configured differently than typical points ignition systems whereas the ignition generating coil is grounded, therefore in theory, this system would never work, as the points are not really acting as a high speed switch.
Could someone email me a copy of the ignition schematic for this engine? perhaps an explanation of how the system works? what does mercury when they use the term alternate firing ?
