Changing drive belt

Post by punchtech2 »

I just picked up a 88 scoot, what is the quickest way to get to and inspect the belt and clutch?
Thanks for any tips!

Remove side/kick start cover. There is no gasket used, just rtv. Secondary clutch you should not have to touch. Primary clutch, remove from engine and take apart, very easy to do. There are six round slides/weights under the back cover that is held in by three screws, you will probably need to replace these, they get flat spots on them. You can get them through Yammy dealer around $5 each. The rubber backing material might be worn through. Not a big deal, not worth bying new clutch for. If worn, torn just remove all rubber material. Just clean with brakeclean, do not use any oil or grease when putting clutch back together. Make sure you torque clutch nut when putting back on engine.
