Hi, I have a 76 merc trail twister 440, just wondering if the driven sheave is supposed to be pressed on? I am trying to remove one, ive taken off the snap ring, and spacer washers, but it won't budge, just wondering if anyone had any ideas, my manual just says to remove the sheave, and no way how to do it
Thanks,
Will
Secondary clutch sheave
Re: Secondary clutch sheave
If it is original equipment and/or using the original jackshaft it is a slide on fit with a long square key.
Put the penetrating oil to it and let it sit. You can also use heat (I use a bernzomatic for plumbing as you don't really want more than that). Then get a 4 foot 2x4 and give it a couple of stiff whacks from the chaincase side of the sled. Hit on the center sheave NOT THE OUTER EDGE.
If that does not work. Remove the jackshaft completely. Oil the key way area and use a press.
