What can be expected of a 340 T/T compared to a 440? I was looking at quite a few of them, 340's and a 440. Now I am kind of stumped.
I have a 340 Yamaha Exciter and was thinking maybe it would be better to get something in the same class.

I actually have both & raced them against each other. From a dead stop, with traction, the 440 will pull out a few sled lengths & stay there for 600 ft. From a rolling run, the 340 will stay within 1/2 sled. If you do some clutch work on the 340, you can run with (or outrun) most Merc 440's, if the guys don't have them in tip-top tuning condition & lot's of 500+ cc sleds from the 80's. If you do some work on the 340 & 440 engines, then it can go either way. I raced my 440 T/T at Eagle River in 2006, and the class winner that year was a 340 T/T. He handled better & stayed low. So, don't ever think because it's a 340, that it's not worthy...it's more than worthy!

Thanks for the input, Scott! That pretty much mimics what people say about the 340 Exciter. Dad had a 440 T/T but he was quick to say that the 340 was "almost just as fast". I could tell by the look on his face that he wasn't lying either. I think he wants me to get a Twister either way.
